<p>The Rogue is running at 141 cubic feet per second, which puts it at 90 percent of the historical median for this date. That is about as near-normal as a river gets in early July. The gauge height sits at 3.88 feet. Flow is low enough that you will not be fighting a swollen current, high enough that the fish are not locked into the deepest pools. This is a working day on the water.</p>
<p>What makes the Rogue worth understanding, especially for someone who has not spent time there, is what it represents. This is an outstanding wild brown trout fishery that runs through the suburbs of West-Central Michigan, right through Rockford itself. The exceptions are rare enough that they bear mentioning: one of the best urban trout streams anywhere. You do not drive an hour to fish next to a parking lot because the parking lot is convenient. <h2>Northern Lower Peninsula</h2>

The White in Newaygo County does not advertise itself. It does not appear in the glossy spreads or the weekend crowds.
